Who does SEO for solar companies in Yorkshire? We do, from Sheffield.
We're James and Stephanie, a two-person firm in Sheffield doing SEO for solar installers at £495 a month. We'll be straight: we've done no SEO for solar companies in Yorkshire yet, so no firm here is on our books. Our solar proof is SolarSave in Retford, Nottinghamshire.
Free, no obligation. We take one installer per trade in each area, so we'll check yours first.

Local search data
Local SEO: your customers search by town, not by county.
The ten towns below add up to about 2,010 searches a month for “solar panels” plus the place name. “Solar panels yorkshire” gets about 300. So one big regional page won't do the job. You want local SEO built one place at a time, starting where you already have solar installations.
| Town | Searches a month | Ahrefs difficulty, out of 100 |
|---|---|---|
| Sheffield | 500 | 43 |
| Leeds | 350 | 0 |
| York | 250 | 0 |
| Barnsley | 200 | 27 |
| Doncaster | 150 | 0 |
| Bradford | 150 | 0 |
| Wakefield | 150 | 0 |
| Hull | 80 | 47 |
| Huddersfield | 80 | 0 |
| Rotherham | 50 | 0 |
Ahrefs, UK, checked 3 November 2026. Volumes are modelled, so read them as rough sizes. A difficulty of 0 can mean little link data, not an easy win.
Who you're up against: local businesses and big directories, side by side. In Ahrefs' latest check, a local firm (Domain Rating 12) sits above a national energy supplier (78), and a big job directory (90) sits below both. A strong brand doesn't settle it. A firm with a clear local page and real work there can compete.
Local content
Local content needs facts that only fit that town.
If you could swap the place name and it still read true, it's weak, and it could count as a doorway under Google's spam policies. These public facts show how much the towns differ, so copied text would soon go wrong.
Barnsley
18 conservation areas. 45.5% of homes are semis, and 7.7% are flats or similar. The council has a Warm Homes: Local Grant allocation of £1,538,552.
Rotherham
28 conservation areas and 49.2% semis. Rotherham isn't on GOV.UK's list of councils with that grant, so copying Barnsley's wording would mislead people.
Sheffield
21.0% of homes are flats or similar, far more than Barnsley. So buyers here have different questions. The council's allocation is £4,006,008.
Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Kirklees has 31.5% terraced homes, against 23.0% across England, and 59 conservation areas. Roofs and planning questions come up differently.
Beverley
In the East Riding, 35.3% of homes are detached, against 22.9% across England. Beverley alone has at least 8 conservation areas.
The network
Northern Powergrid runs the network across the region. Naming the right operator shows you do this work here. Check by postcode near the edges.
National parks
The Peak District reaches into South and West Yorkshire. Inside it, the park authority handles planning, so say who decides.
Your own work
This matters most. A job there, a photo and a review from one of your customers. If you don't have them yet, we'd hold that page back until you do.
Census 2021 (ONS table TS044), by council. Grant figures from GOV.UK, updated 2 July 2026. Conservation areas from each council. Checked before anything goes on your site.
Our solar proof
What happened for one solar company, in Retford.
This is our only solar proof, and it's from Nottinghamshire. SolarSave is having a new website, then six months of SEO. The site went live on 17 October 2026, so this is the start of the story.
-
1341,977Google views a day: the average the week before launch, then two days after. It settled at about 1,500.
-
6enquiries
In the first 11 days, 2 of them booked a call. Worth about £500 to £540 at SolarSave's own lead prices.
-
14.47.1Average map rank for “solar panels” round Retford, 10 to 19 October 2026. Lower is better.
The honest bit: clicks stayed at about 4 a day, because most of the new searches sat on page four to six. It's too early to say how many of the 6 enquiries found SolarSave through Google rather than already knowing the name. Most of the map move happened before the new site went live, and we don't know what caused it. See the full SolarSave results
What it costs
One monthly price. No contract.
We build local SEO campaigns specifically for energy installers. Our solar SEO packages start and stop at one price, wherever you are.
- When it pays for itself
- At SolarSave's own lead prices, an exclusive lead is £25 to £35 and a booked appointment is £200. So £495 is 15 to 20 enquiries a month, or 3 booked appointments. Your prices may differ.
- How fast it works
- A neglected Google profile can move within weeks. New pages usually take a few months to settle.
- Everything stays yours
- The pages, profile, reviews and links are still yours if you stop.
How it works
What we'd do first for solar panel installers here.

We take one installer per trade in the town where they're based. More about us
Check this first
One installer per area means the town you're based in.
We take one installer per trade in the town where they're based. It doesn't cover everywhere they're willing to travel. SolarSave is based in Retford, so it doesn't stop us working with a firm based here.
No solar firm from here is with us today, so nowhere is taken yet. Once one is, we can't take a second solar installer based in the same place. We'll tell you in our first reply, before you spend any time on it.

Your options
Who else does SEO for solar companies round here, and where we stand.
Three kinds of firm do this: general digital agencies across the region, UK agencies that focus on solar installers, and small specialists like us. When we searched on 3 November 2026, few looked both local and solar focused. This is the regional side of our solar SEO service.
True today
What we can say
- We're based in Sheffield and work with installers across the UK
- Energy is our focus. We offer specialised SEO services for solar businesses, and for battery, heat pump and heating firms
- James has 10+ years in SEO and does yours himself. Stephanie has 13+ years in the energy industry. We're a team of two, with no account managers
- We have one solar case study, with dates and the weak spots left in
Not true yet
What we can't say
- We don't have a solar company based in this region as a client, so there's no local example
- We have no results from a solar installer based here to show you
- None of our Google reviews come from a firm here. They're from Retford, St Neots and a heating firm working round London
- We can't promise a position. Nobody controls Google
Need a local solar result before you'll talk? Then choose an SEO agency that has one, and ask any of them the same three things. Which client? Where? Can I see the Search Console numbers, with dates?
Search example
One place up close: a small installer can get in.
Take Doncaster. It gets about 150 searches a month for panels, and about 150 for solar panel installers. Two local businesses (Domain Rating 8 and 19) rank there alongside an energy quote site (69) and a big job directory (90). So a good local page can get in.
What a page for it did for a Retford firm, eight days in
- solar panel quotes doncaster16th
- solar panel installation cost doncaster28th
SolarSave's page, checked 25 October 2026. Neither is on page one. SolarSave is in Retford, Nottinghamshire, so this shows early movement. It doesn't show results for a firm based there, and it doesn't show enquiries from there.

Questions
Questions solar installers ask us.
Something else on your mind? Ask us. You'll get a straight answer, usually the same day.
Ask us on WhatsAppAre you really based here?
Yes. We're in Sheffield and work with installers across the UK. More about James and Stephanie.
Is SolarSave a local client?
No. SolarSave is based in Retford, Nottinghamshire. Some of their work reaches into the region, but they aren't a firm from here and we won't present them as one. They don't stop us taking a firm from here either, because our one installer per area rule goes by where you're based.
Do you run Google Ads or PPC?
No. We don't sell ads or leads. If you need installs in the diary this week, ads are quicker, and we'll say so. Weighing up bought leads? Read solar leads: buy or build?
Do you cover commercial solar?
Yes. Commercial buyers search differently, so commercial solar gets its own pages, keywords and content.
Do I need a new website first?
Not usually. If your site is holding you back, we'll tell you in your free review. Our solar website design starts with a free homepage design.
Can you just do my Google profile?
Yes. Our Google Business Profile service sets one up for £297 or overhauls yours for £247. Ongoing management is £147 a month.
